The most common thing that breaks monthly budgets and long-term financial plans is impulse buys. Considering that the Christmas season is the peak time for impulse buys, I think it is a good time to discuss what the cause is.
Simply, impulse buys are a result of a lack of discipline and maturity. We all have done them at some point or another, including yours truly. Of course each one of us has that child inside of us who wants it NOW, but the key is to learn how to delay pleasure. Once you have developed the discipline to say no to yourself, you are helping change your financial future.
Learning how to say no is not easy, but is necessary in stopping the impulse buying. In the short-term it may feel good, but learning to say no and delaying pleasure will be better in the long run. So this Christmas season, set a budget and learn how to say no!
