The best investment you can make is in yourself

I write a lot about investing in your 401(K) and IRA because I want to encourage you to invest for your future. But today I want to talk about the best investment you can make, and that investment is in yourself.

When was the last time you invested in yourself? Have you taken a class, gone to a seminar, learned a new skill or even read a book on a new subject in the past year? Investing in yourself is your best investment because gaining new knowledge and skills will ultimately lead you to a better career or give you the ability to start your own business. You cannot control what the markets will do, but you can control what you learn and how you apply it. That is why you need to be continually making investments in yourself.

Investing in the stock market is wise, but investing in you is even wiser! The best return on investment will always come from you. So what are you doing to invest in yourself? Make it a point in the next 30 days to sacrifice both time and money and do some investing in YOU! As a financial coach I am against you investing in your retirement until you are debt free. However, when investing in yourself, I am OK with you still being in debt as long as there is a payoff that will help you get out of debt even faster! So look inward and look for ways to invest in yourself and the payoff will last a lifetime.

What are some ways that you have invested in yourself? What were the payoffs both in the short-term and the long-term?
