A few months back my friend Glen Steinson sent me a copy of Rob Kuban’s book The Secret of Generosity*. I finished reading it about a month ago and thought I would share my thoughts on it. It is a good book tackling the subject of giving from a Christian point of view. I have talked about faith and finances before on the podcast and this is an area that I am still growing in, so reading material on this subject is something that I really enjoy doing.
The book is broken down into 3 main parts: 1) Design 2) Doctrine 3) Daily Life. For me, the best section in the book was Daily Life. The book will really encourage you if you are looking to pick up your generosity. Rob does a great job of encouraging you to give without condemning you or making you feel bad. He supports his views with scripture which is something I really liked because I feel often that when we talk about faith and finances we talk about it from our perspective and forget what the Bible says.
If you love discussion on what the Bible has to say about giving, then check out The Secret of Generosity. Personally, I found this book to be very enjoyable. The first half of the book was a little slow but it really picked up in the last half so I finished it pretty quickly. I also enjoyed the honest discussion of tithing. Rob views it from a little different perspective than I do but he made some great points and got me thinking about it from a different viewpoint. Rob is a really great writer and I am looking forward to checking out his other books soon.
