Listen to this Episode

Highlights of today’s show:

  • “Author Month” on the podcast in the month of June
  • Josh shares why student loans are the biggest threat to his generation
  • How do you go to school debt-free
  • The benefits of working while in school
  • How going to school debt-free impacted his life

Josh Lawson from Finances Restored joins me on the show to discuss his book Don’t Get Suckered: How to Survive College Debt Free…and with Your Shirt* as part of “Author Month” on the podcast.

Josh decided to write the book because when giving discussions on money he always got the question, “What do I do about my student loans?” After a while, he saw how being debt-free out of school benefited him and decided to write the book. To Josh, student loans and the “spoiled brat mentality” that many students today have is one of the biggest challenges for his generation.

Personally, Josh has seen the benefits of graduating from school debt-free. With his parents’ assistance and by him working while in school, Josh did not have to take out any student loans. In addition, he was able to save for an engagement ring and pay for the wedding and honeymoon in cash.

Josh never thought he would be an author. He got the encouragement after attending a Dan Miller conference and he knew then that he had to get his message out there. The hardest thing about writing a book for Josh was making the time day in and day out. All said, he is glad he wrote Don’t Get Suckered and plans on writing another book soon.
